EMERGENCY NUMBER

725-6572

The Midcoast Hazmat Team is a volunteer organization based out of Brunswick Fire Department in Brunswick, ME.  We respond to Hazardous Material spills and releases, both accidental and intentional.  The team is the State of Maine's Regional Response Team #IV.  As such we are responsible for incidents in our Region as well as assisting other regions in the State that might require us.

The Midcoast Hazmat Team has many members that have traveled and trained to various locations around the country with direct hands on training of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) chemicals, Radiological release, Biological chemicals, and Ordinances (explosives).  The hands-on-training (H.O.T. classes) allow them the opportunity to increase their confidence, while at the same time, decreasing the "Fear Factor" when it comes time to deal with any of these events.

The Midcoast Hazmat Team has become very proficient in all of those areas and trains as a team on a regular basis along with other teams in the state to keep up this knowledge and expertise.  As with many emergency services, we train for the worst and hope for the best.  Although the incidents that we have to respond to are few and far between, we volunteer and train, just in case.

The Midcoast Hazmat Team is also involved in assisting and training with the Regions Fire Departments to bring them up to the "Hazmat Operations" Level, which assists us in all of our operations in their towns.  Additionally, we welcome newly trained Operation Level Hazmat personnel to join the team and become Hazmat Technicians and WMD Technicians.
